What are Backlinks and how to build high-quality backlinks?

Backlinks definition

A backlink is nothing but linking two websites to each other. Backlinks are known as inbound links or incoming links. For example – there are two websites namely, website A and website B. If website backlinks A has an external website backlinks B, it means website B has website backlinks from A.

Meaning of backlinks states that a hyperlink from one website to your page, this means more the traffic at your page from another website indicates more the popularity.

The more you have backlinks to your website, the higher the ranking in SERP. This indicates that your content is worth sharing and quite relevant to the search query. To get more backlinks to your website, your website should have quality content, relevance factor and domain authority.

What are Backlinks?

The answer to what are backlinks is, a link from one website to another, sometimes known as an “inbound link,” a “incoming link,” or a “one-way link.” Backlinks or “inbound links” bring traffic from another website to your website. This may help to improve your search engine rankings by building more and better backlinks.

For the users who are searching backlinks meaning in Hindi- Backlink ek aisa link hai jiske dwara dusre website se humari website asani se jodi jaa sakti hai.

Why are Backlinks Important?

Backlinks play a very important role in SEO. The reason behind this is the number of backlinks on your website is one of the most crucial factors. This will affect your ranking on Google’s search engine page results (SERP) if you have quality backlinks SEO.

Following factors determine the importance of SEO backlinks

Factor 1. Build relationships among the audience

If your website has got backlinks from trustworthy, famous and high authority sites then those are considered high-quality backlinks.

The important aspects are page authority, relevant content, search engine accessibility and so on.

Factor 2. Backlinks are Google’s Reputation Tools

The main aim behind SEO backlinks is, Google always wants its users to get the best content. So Google always points search queries in the best and right direction.

This implies that it will take users to a popular website with quality content. Because the website is popular it means it has a good reputation and can be trusted.

If there are two sites, one with 4 backlinks and the other with 50+ backlinks, which one would you choose?

The answer is obvious, it would be one with the higher backlinks. The site with backlinks has a good reach and is trustworthy.

Factor 3. Backlinks increase your site credibility

For example, if a restaurant has a backlink profile with inbound links from food bloggers and food blogging websites. Linking to its content emphasises that it offers something valuable to the consumers.

However, if the restaurant has to just fill its backlink profile with links from a beauty blog or automobile blog then it would have the opposite effect. This would be considered a low-quality backlink profile. Google might also penalize for this kind of activity.

Factor 4. Backlinks drive traffic to your website

Google does not trust a website that has low traffic. Hence it will lower the rank on the search engine results page (SERP).

Any user who clicks backlinks through any medium like social media share, guest post, etc. will land on your website. This will help you boost the traffic using SEO backlinks.

Therefore, if you generate more traffic through referral links it will improve your ranking on SERP, as your content will be trustworthy.

Types of Backlinks

Below mentioned are a few types of links that will help in website ranking.

#1. Linking Root Domain

The backlinks coming from unique domains are called linking root domains (aka links). If a blogger is writing about healthy foods and mentions Godrej Nature’s Basket and link to its website, that is called linking root domain.

Multiple backlinks from a single domain will be counted as one linking root domain.

There are two types of linking root domain –
(i) Page links
(ii) Domain links

Page links are the linking between websites and specific pages of the other website. Domain links are the linking between domains of two different websites.

Page links are more efficient as it directs to the specific page of the website.

#2. Referral links

Referral links are links created by any social media pages, forums, etc. which are considered as a no-follow links. They are also known as affiliate one, it has a unique affiliate ID to track the visitor traffic to the website.

Examples of referral links are blogs, reviews, social networks, email marketing, etc.

#3. Nofollow links

Nofollow links are links with the attribute rel=”nofollow” HTML tag applied to it where rel stands for relationship. It is one way of telling the search engine to not follow the particular link.

Nofollow links do not impact search engine ranking as it does not pass the page rank process.

In 2005, Google created a Nofollow tag and implemented it in an algorithm to reduce spam comments on blogs.

#4. Link Juice

Link juice is also called link equity. The process of passing certain values and authority from one page to another is called link juice.

Link juice is one of the search engine’s ranking factors. The value of the link equity is based on page authority, relevant and quality content, HTTP status and many more.

If highly authoritative sites give a backlink to a smaller site, it indicates that the content is highly valuable and have a vote of confidence from the user.

Google PageRank is used to measure the link juice of the website by Google.

#5. Dofollow links

Dofollow links are the HTML attribute that tells the search engines to crawl and follow them. By default, all links are dofollow links unless the link has nofollow tag.

Dofollow links are beneficial in SEO as it helps to get PageRank. Higher the dofollow links, higher SEO points.

Any website with good content and high dofollow links receive a credibility vote from Google. Also, you can get the best websites dofollow backlinks from any search engine.

#6. Low-quality links

The links which come from low domain authority (website domain authority), new website, less/low-quality content, private blog network, duplicate content, etc are low-quality links.

This tends to break search engine algorithms and give way for Black hat SEO. Search engines can easily identify which content is unique and duplicate it as it crawls websites and keeps the record.

Low-quality links are ignored by Google which indicated low or negligible rankings on search pages.

In 2012, when Google launched Penguin update its main objective was low-quality links. It had lowered the ranking of these links overnight.

To avoid low-quality links you can check metrics like DA/PA, traffic, authorities score to build high-quality backlinks

#7. Internal links

Internal links are the linking of two pages to each other with the same domain. They are more specific as it has required quality content. These links help the user to navigate across the website to gain more information.

When a visitor moves from one page to another page, it gives credibility i.e. pass authority which improves search optimization.

Internal links help in getting a high conversion rate.

#8. External links

External links are the linking of two different websites. If you are giving a link to someone’s website in your blog then it is an external link for you. You are giving them a backlink. Similarly, if someone is giving a link to your website on their blog, then you are getting a backlink for your website.

These links are difficult to control.

External links play a crucial role in page ranking on search engines. It’s important to see what others have to say than what you have to say.
